Multihead weighers are most naturally suited to products that can be separated into repeatable portions and released cleanly from the feed and weigh hoppers. Free-flowing granules, snacks and components are common starting points, while fine powders, sticky products and fragile pieces need application-specific feeding, surfaces, drop paths or an alternative dosing method.

A product is a strong candidate when it can be distributed into separate portions, measured repeatably and discharged without unacceptable retention or damage. Suitability depends on flow, piece size, bulk density, coating, temperature, fragility and the target weight. Can a multihead weigher handle powder?

Some free-flowing granular or coarse powder products may be candidates, but fine, dusty, cohesive or aerated powders often need a specialist powder-dosing review. The trial must examine leakage, dust, stable portion formation and clean discharge. Where screw dosing offers better control, the correct comparison is an auger filler rather than forcing the product onto a combination weigher.

Can sticky or oily products be weighed on a multihead weigher?

They may be possible with application-specific feeding, hopper geometry and contact surfaces, but suitability must be proved with the real product condition. Temperature, oil, sugar, moisture and coating can change adhesion during a run. The assessment should include build-up, release from the hopper, retained product and the cleaning process.

How are fragile products assessed?

Fragile-product suitability is assessed through the complete path, not only by checking the weigh hoppers. Feed-tray vibration, transfer points, drop height, chute angles, timing-hopper release and the receiving pack can all create damage. Compare representative samples before and after the trial and agree what breakage or coating loss is acceptable.

Can a multihead weigher handle mixed products?

A mixed product can be weighed when the required composition and weight control can be maintained with the selected machine arrangement. Differences in density, size and flow may cause segregation, so the trial should measure both total weight and mix quality. A weight result alone does not prove that each pack contains the required component balance.

Can screws, fasteners and small components be filled by weight?

Free-flowing components may be filled by weight, provided the feed path, hopper construction, noise, abrasion and pack handling suit the parts. If the commercial requirement is an exact count, the relationship between count and weight must be validated across component tolerances. Sharp or heavy parts may require additional protection and a different discharge arrangement.

When is another dosing technology more suitable?

An auger filler is often the better comparison for fine cohesive powders, while a linear weigher may suit simpler lower-output free-flowing applications. Volumetric, pump or counting methods may be relevant for other products. The correct decision follows the product behaviour, target, output, pack and acceptance criteria rather than a preference for one machine label.

What sample should be sent for a suitability test?

Send product that represents normal production variation, including the smallest, largest and most difficult material expected. Include the intended pack, target weights, required output, temperature, coating condition, known flow problems and cleaning constraints. A selected easy sample may produce a result that cannot be repeated in production.

Can one multihead weigher run several products?

One machine may cover several products only when their feed, hopper, discharge, cleaning and target requirements fit a practical shared configuration. Recipe storage does not remove mechanical differences. Each product family should be checked for change parts, contact surfaces, cleaning release, retained product and the range of target weights that must be achieved.
